John Verhage of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Doreen (Schile) Verhage, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at the age of 72 years.

John was born in Krimpen Aan Den Ijssel, Holland on January 19, 1949. He immigrated to Canada with his family in 1961 where they had a small farm in Stirling, Southern Alberta. John met Doreen in 1968, they were married in 1971, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2021 surrounded by their two children and six grandchildren. Many people will remember “Napa John” from his 45-year career providing service to patrons of Baalim Automotive and UAP/NAPA.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors, often going fishing, playing horseshoes, and camping. After he retired, he spent his time gardening and doing woodwork projects. John always enjoyed cooking for his family and telling his grandchildren stories about the family farm. Besides his loving wife Doreen, John is survived by his daughter Coralee, spouse Ryan, Couture of Lethbridge and their children Hannah and Jack; son Michael, spouse Elise, Verhage of Lethbridge and their children Darrah, Xander, Matthew, and Jerzy; Sisters Tina Bayer, Ann Sorenson, Cory and Joe Pysh, Jane and Merv Makaroff, Elsie and Jerry Presiloski, and Aggie and Ron Francis; and brother Louis Verhage; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

John was predeceased by his parents John Verhage Sr, Aagjie Verhage, and his stepmother Irene Verhage, brothers Dirk Verhage, Hendrick Verhage, and several sisters and brothers in law.

Due to COVID restrictions a private family service will be held.
