JEAN CAMERON VALLANCE

1926 ~ 2017

Jean C. Vallance passed away on September 27, 2017 at the age of 91.

Jean was born in Calgary on February 26th, 1926. She graduated from the Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1947.

In 1949 she married her High School sweetheart Peter S. Vallance, who practised Law in Calgary until his retirement in 1988.

Jean & Peter bought their beautiful 5.5-acre parcel of land on Lake Windermere in 1953, on which they built the family cabin. Upon Peter’s retirement, they lived full-time on the property they loved so much, in a home that replaced the cottage. They didn’t exactly slow down; they operated a business known as “Classy Crafts”, selling jams & jellies made with the berries they picked, plus other lovely hand-made goods.

Jean loved music and flowers and the great outdoors. She travelled the world with Peter, but her heart was in the canoe trips they took on wild northern rivers, the cross-country skiing throughout the Banff-Windermere area, camping, and just enjoying the mountains.

Jean was a fiercely independent woman; she lived by herself on the Lake in contented solitude for many years after Peter departed, despite being legally-blind and suffering many physical ailments. It was only this last May that she moved to Lethbridge to her own suite, to be closer to family. It was on the day that she had faced giving up her independence, moving to a care facility, when she moved on to her next adventure.

Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband Peter in 2008 and son David this last January.

Jean is survived by her son Bruce (Myrna), daughter Barbara (Larry), eight grandchildren: Meghan (Derek), Matthew (Nicole), Patrick (Anne), Annie (Erik), Peter (Elise), David (Alisha), Sampson & Kallie (Wallie), and nine great-grandchildren: Auburn, Sytiera, Meadow, Hunter, Evie, Elise, Stella, Magnus & Oliver.

At Jean’s request, there will be no formal service.
