ARNOLD MYRON STROMSMOE
March 14, 1918 - March 11, 2011
ARNOLD STROMSMOE, our beloved husband, father, and Papa passed peacefully into the arms of his Saviour at the age of 92. Arnold is survived by his wife of 62 years, Clara (Maser); children: Sandra (Bob) Ackerman, Mylo (Sharon), and Edwin (Linda); grandchildren: Darren (Melanie) Ackerman, Kristy (Chad) Billyard, Cameron (Brooke) Stromsmoe, Tiffany (Mike) Schooten, Brittany (Chad) Giesbrecht, and Jay (Carianne) Stromsmoe; great-grandchildren: Sophie and Lily Ackerman; Oliver, Isaiah and Jack Billyard; Noah and Quinten Stromsmoe; Georgia, Walker and Paisley Schooten; Chloe, Rhett and Alexandra Giesbrecht.
ARNOLD is also survived by his sisters: Marie Morrison, Lois Thompson, Ramona Hanson, Olga (Jim) Kratchmer, brother in law Bob Slack, and their families, as well as Clara's family: Tillie Stack, Edward Maser, Helen (Leroy) Wegner, and Irene Reierstad.
ARNOLD was predeceased by his father Edwin (1941); mother Pearl (1993); brothers Gerald (Canadian Merchant Marines 1942), Mylo (United States Air Force 1944), and Demoine (1995); sisters Hester (2008), Lavon (2009); brother in-laws Jack McCullough, Don Morrison, Tom Thompson, Herb Hanson; Clara's parents Jacob and Amelia Maser; sister Ella; brothers and sister-in-law, Emil Eslinger, Fred Stack, Ellen Maser, and Cliff Reierstad.
Arnold was born on his grandmother's homestead in the Pendant d'Oreille district in an era when survival necessitated hard work and a generous heart. Growing up in a family of ten children helped shape Dad into the kind, compassionate and thoughtful man he unfailingly was.
Arnold worked first with his father, drilling water wells, then with Jack Casley (his friend and mentor) as a blacksmith in Etzikom. He worked as an aircraft maintenance mechanic with the Canadian Air Force in Hagersville, Ont. and Tempsford, England during the war. Most of Arnold's working years were spent with Canadian Montana Gas Co. (now Encana) as a high pressure welder in Manyberries and Pendant d'Oreille. We believed there was nothing Papa couldn't fix.
Arnold met Clara at a dance in One-Four after he came home from the war and were married October, 1948. Their marriage is a testimony to the beauty of two people who are unfailingly kind and committed to one another.
Dad's faith in Christ was steadfast. We all have a mental image of Dad reading his bible before anyone else got up in the morning. No meal was ever eaten without giving thanks to God for his gracious kindness and mercy. Dad's example of a life well lived before the face of God is one that we will never forget, and by God's grace we will live as well.
We would like to thank Dr. Meller, Alyssa (home care nurse), and the compassionate staff at Ste. Therese Villa for their care of Dad in the last two years of his life.
