Sophie Machacek

SOPHIE HELEN MACHACEK of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Frank Ackerman, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on March 10, 2010 at the age of 84 years.

Born in Poland to Stefan and Helen (Smigelski) Piontek, she came to Canada at age 8 to join her parents and siblings; Curly Piontek, Stanley Piontek and Jayne Stabb. Sophie was a hard worker which was evident in her life on the farm with Charlie Machacek (deceased), her first husband. In her later years, Sophie enjoyed traveling, golfing, and dancing with her husband and companion, Frank Ackerman. Her great-grandchildren Aiden and Taylor Wong and Zachary Aldridge were the light of her life. Sophie was dearly loved and will be missed by many, including her close friend, Corry Hahn.

Besides her loving husband Frank Ackerman, Sophie is survived by her daughter Sharon (Ken) Morton, her grandchildren; Raeshell (Corey) Wong, Michael Aldridge, Karla Morton, and her great-grandchildren; Aiden and Taylor Wong and Zachary Aldridge, as well as her sister Jayne Stabb and her 2 brothers Curly (Doreen) Piontek and Stanley Piontek, and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Besides her first husband Charlie Machacek, she was predeceased by her parents, Stefan and Helen Piontek.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm on Friday, March 12, 2010 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610, 4th Street South, Lethbridge.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL.

A Private Family Interment will be held at Mountain View Cemetery.
