Sara Slomp

Official Obituary of

28/8/1935 - to - 30/1/2011

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. - Romans 8:18
But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body. - Philippians 3:20-21

Safe in the arms of Jesus, Sara Slomp (VanderWekken) beloved wife of the late Lou Slomp, surrounded by her children, was called home to be with her faithful Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 30, 2011 after a period of illness.

Sara was born August 28, 1935 in Zierikzee, The Netherlands. She immigrated along with her family to Canada in 1950. Sara married Lou Slomp on December 12, 1958. Together they raised their family and resided in the Nobleford area most of their lives.

Sara is survived by her children Clarence (Anita) - Sarina (Jared Tamminga), Vanessa (Mike Spaling), Amelia; Len (Marlene) - Whitney and her son Aiden, Jasmine, Mckenzie; Lucy (Mike Whalen) - Tamara, Tyler; Dave (Nadine) - Shandryn, Travis; Teresa - Kayla, Austin (Katie) and their son Harley. She also leaves her brothers and sisters; Dan (Margaret), Corrie Irvine, Tony (Ruth), Nellie (John) Venhuis, Joanne (Joe) Barthel, Marie (Richard) Thompson, sister-in-law Grace, and brother-in-law George Reurink, their families and the extended Slomp family.

Sara was predeceased by her parents, Leendert and Elizabeth; brothers Stoffel and John; sister Jenny; brother-in-law Sonny; and granddaughter Cianna.

The family would like to give special thanks to all of Sara's caregivers at the Regional Hospital and St. Michael's Health Centre. Thanks for your compassion, dignity and respect shown.

Following a private family interment at the Nobleford Monarch Cemetery, a Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at the NOBLEFORD CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 522 Highway Avenue, Nobleford, Alberta, with Pastor Jordan, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donation in Sara's memory may be given to the Kaitlin Boyda Fund, c/o Compassion Canada www.compassion.ca/kaitlinswish or toll free: 1-800-563-5437.
