Lillian Slingsby
Official Obituary of
14/5/1916 - to - 5/7/2009
MRS. LILLIAN SLINGSBY beloved wife of the late Mr. Victor Slingsby, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2009 at the age of 93 years.
Lillian was the dearly loved mother of daughters Phillis (John) Linitiski (Didsbury), Penny Dodd (Lethbridge), Laura (Tom) Sugimoto (Calgary) and son Art (Calgary), Grandmother to eleven and Great Grandmother to five. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Victor, daughter Barbara Heninger and grandson John Taylor Heninger.
Lillian Anne, the fourth child of Matt and Mary Bohmer, was born in Lethbridge on May 14th 1916. She spent her early years near Chin Alberta and then moved, aged 12, to Judson where her father had the job of grain buyer for the Balwf Grain Company. She would spend most of the rest of her life there. In 1934 she married Victor Slingsby, a union that lasted 72 years to Victor's passing in 2006. They had five children, raising them all on the farm two miles south of Judson, and continued to live there till 2001 when age forced them to leave for a seniors' home in Coaldale. Their last move was to the Rosewood Villa in Ft. MacLeod in 2004.
Lillian was known to be a very hard worker, milking many head of cows, keeping a large garden and being there for general farm labour. In addition to raising her own five children, she was also happy to look after other babies as they came along. She was a prodigious cook and her table always had room for anyone whom she thought might be hungry or just happened to be there at meal time. She wasn't that good at dispensing cooking advice however: commonly ""cook it till it's done"" was the final part of the instruction.
She and Victor were active in the local church, she teaching several generations of Sunday School attendees and singing in the choir. Many pot luck suppers were graced by her flapper pies.
She was well loved by her children and grandchildren and loved them back equally.
If you love me as I love you
