Dianne Skretting

Official Obituary of

31/10/1944 - to - 2/9/2024

Dianne Skretting of Lethbridge, AB passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of September 2, 2024.

Dianne was born in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan, on October 31, those who loved her always teased her about being a Halloween baby with many jokes that she enjoyed.

In her earlier years, she had a difficult childhood growing up on a farm with her brother Jackie where she learned how to work hard and desired to be the best she could be. So in the years to follow she put herself through school to get a good education to support her children. She raised her children on her own with very little help.

She made many sacrifices for them, one year even though she had to walk a few miles from Scenic Drive to the college she was attending in the winter she went without winter boots to ensure her children had boots and winter coats. She did acts of love like this many times in her life, and all for the love of her children.

After her graduation she had several jobs leading up to the one she loved the most and worked there until she retired at The Lethbridge Lodge Hotel as the Reservation Manager, almost everyday she met many celebrities, her highlight was the day she got to touch the Stanley Cup. She also made several lifelong friends there who all came to know her as “Lady Di”.

When her children were young she always ensured a family dinner get-together every Sunday without any interruptions, not even the television was on.

Her family meant the world to her and all who knew her felt her love. We had many gatherings that were all about music, laughter, and good food that was prepared together. She loved her family and spent a tremendous amount of time treasuring every minute with them. A neighborhood of friends also loved her. Dianne was honest and kind to all humans and animals.

Dianne was such a great teacher of life skills for her children, she was the Matriarch, and we all came to her for life advice, she was so wise and a class act. She was such a great support by encouraging them to be their best and to live by the words:

“Be silly, be honest, be kind, work hard.”

She always told them, don’t bother doing a job unless you’re going to do it right!

She was the youngest 79-year-old woman, so young at heart who loved Rock’n Roll music. She had such a great sense of humor and a delightful wit who could have fun outsmarting anyone who challenged her, by mostly speaking the truth. She had a great love for reading and would have several books on the go at all times, she especially enjoyed Stephen King. She would seek out to read every book he ever wrote.

Dianne instilled in her children…

It’s not what you come from that matters in life, it’s about what you choose to become that counts! And she chose to be the best mother, grandmother, friend, and neighbor that a woman could be.

We love you Mom, it has been an honor having you in our lives and knowing such a lovely soul. You are our hero and a legend.

Dianne is survived by her daughter Karyn Jarvis, and her son Jeremy Reierson; son in law Bryan Calpas; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Tyler, Chelsea (Trey, Tripp, Jett), Shyla (Keith) (Aidan, Chase, Ellie); and brother Jackie Tilsey (Geneva).

She was predeceased by her mother Juilette Doucette; children Denise Calpas and Danny Skretting; son-in-laws, Ken Jarvis and Jeff Mehrer.

A Celebration of Life for Dianne Skretting will be held on Saturday, September 21st, 2024. An open house will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m, 941 10 STREET SOUTH. Refreshments will be provided. Come share your stories of this lovely woman.
