Semila Goodman

It is with both sadness and gentle relief that we announce the passing of Semila Goodman, beloved mother of Cary Goodman. Semila passed away with her family by her side at Extendicare Fairmont Park on July 17, 2011 at the age of 89 years.

Semila was born September 25, 1921 in Pincher Creek, Alberta, the daughter of Florence and Jacob Hollander. She spent her early years in Pincher Creek, moving to Lethbridge once she had completed school. It was in Lethbridge that Semila met and married the love of her life, Leon Goodman, who predeceased on January 3, 1994; later her special friend, Alex Szymiec also predeceased her in 2006.

Semila is survived by her loving son Cary Goodman; sister Daisy Russell; special nieces Gloria (Garry) Holberton, Marcia (Don) Taylor, and Leah Goodman all of Lethbridge; other nieces and nephews as well as her lifelong friend Betty Illingsworth.

Semila worked in the Accounting Department of Elrich Tire Ltd. for many years and is remembered as a most conscientious employee. She loved life and had a contagious sense of fun and laughter. As a notably social person, Semila's friends were very dear to her. She also had a love of music, travel, and adventure. In her later years, Semila was delighted to experience some memorable trips. Above all, however, Semila was a fiercely devoted and loving wife and mother. Family was everything to her.

Semila's family would like to thank the staff of Extendicare and Dr. Evelyn Hardin for their compassionate care. We are particularly grateful to Dianne Greig for her loyal and caring companionship to Semila for the past few years.

A Graveside Service will be held at the family plot at Mountain View Cemetery, Hebrew Section, at 11:00AM on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, with Gary Kohn officiating. All family and friends are invited. Funeral Services are provided by Martin Brothers Funeral Chapels Ltd.

In Lieu of flowers, donations in Semila's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
