Sergeant Sean Gurney of the Lethbridge Regional Police Service, beloved husband of Gina Gurney, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at the age of 38 years.

Sean was a caring father, loyal friend, loving husband, and respected police officer. Born in Kingston, Ontario, he spent his childhood in Swift Current and Slave Lake, before he and his mother finally settled in Lethbridge. There, he studied, and with stubborn determination, eventually made his way into the Lethbridge Regional Police Service, to whose service he dedicated his last 15 years.

Sean was a man who possessed a deep sense of integrity, fairness, and loyalty. It was impossible for him to do anything halfway - he dove purely and energetically into countless pursuits, from world travel to cooking, wine making to military history, crime prevention to coaching his son's lacrosse team.

Sean Gurney will be affectionately remembered for his passionate dedication to his work, his family, and his sense of home.

Besides his loving wife, Gina, Sean is survived by his daughter, Chiara, and his son, Corrigan; his parents, Kathie and John Carlson, Gina's parents, Joe and Lorna Lavorato; and Gina's brother, Mark Lavorato; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Sean was predeceased by his devoted grandparents, Gladys and Leonard Corrigan, and his 'Nonno,' Alfonso Lavorato.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, June 27, 2011 at the EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH OF LETHBRIDGE, 4717 24th Avenue South, Lethbridge (Coutts Highway) with Pastor Scott Currie officiating.

Flowers are gratefully declined. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Lethbridge Shelter and Resource Centre, 802 2A Ave North, T1H 6N6, whose services Sean deeply admired and applauded.
