Remona Schneider

Official Obituary of

24/11/1928 - to - 2/10/2009

MRS. REMONA SCHNEIDER of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Ferdinand (Fernie) Schneider, passed away peacefully at St. Michael's Palliative Care Centre on Friday, October 2, 2009 at the age of 80 years.

Remona was born and raised on the family farm near Langenburg, Saskatchewan on November 24, 1928 to Fredrick and Emilia (Werschler) Mack. She married Fernie on October 5, 1951 and was a devoted wife and mother to daughters Julie and Debbie before moving to Lethbridge. She made friends easily, loved to bake, sew and garden and the coffee pot was always on for her neighbors. Daughter Joanne completed the family. Watching her daughters grow up was topmost on her priority list after a brain tumor was successfully treated in 1961. She was the first person to receive cobalt treatments in Calgary. She and Fernie canvassed and then were captains for the Canadian Cancer Society for many years.

She loved to make their yearly trips 'home' to Saskatchewan to see family and camping there was a highlight as well. She and Fernie enjoyed a trip to Hawaii with Diana and Walter and she never stopped talking about that paradise.

Remona was a faithful Christian all her life and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School, involved with LWML and starting a Friendship Circle Club.

In 2008, another brain tumor was detected and this time she was too tired to fight. She entered St. Michael's Health Care Centre, Palliative Care, and was under the care of the most compassionate and wonderful staff. The family wishes to thank Pastor Rich and Pastor Nathan for their visits and unending love for our Mom, and the doctors and staff of St. Mike's.

Remona was predeceased by her beloved Fernie (1994), her parents, and brothers Victor, Howard and Ervin. Vowing to keep her memory alive are daughters Julie (Jim) Porteous, Debbie (Barry)Tuckett, and Joanne (Bob) Myers. Seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren will remember a spunky and fun lady. Surviving her are siblings Diana Fuhr, Frances (Leonard) Adam and Franklin (Denise) Mack, and in-laws Helen and Renata Mack, as well as many nieces and nephews near and dear to her.

Family and friends may pay their respects between 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm, on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 St., S., Lethbridge, AB.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 20 Rocky Mountain Boulevard West, Lethbridge, AB, with Pastor Richard Brown, officiating.

Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge, AB.

In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to 100 Years of Blessings of Immanuel Lutheran Church, 20 Rocky Mountain Blvd. W., Lethbridge, AB T1K 8E1, or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 317 10 Street S., Lethbridge, AB T1J 9Z9.
