Sandra Stronks

Mrs. Sandra Stronks, of Iron Springs, beloved wife of 38 years to Ben Stronks passed away peacefully at the age of 59 years, on Wednesday, June 6, 2007.

Sandra was born in Smilde, the Netherlands on September 22, 1947 to Lubbertus and Jantje Horlings. She immigrated to Canada with her family in 1952 and settled in Smithers, B.C one year later. Sandra married Ben Stronks on November 12, 1968 and together moved to Iron Springs in 1969. They purchased a farm in 1971 where they resided for 26 years and raised their five children. Sandra was a dedicated bus driver for Palliser Regional Schools for 20 years. She also took great pride in being the Iron Springs Christian Reformed Church caretaker for 20 years. Sandra loved her jobs as well as spending time with her family. She had enthusiasm for life, a warm smile and a love for everyone she met. Sandra loved God and never wavered from her faith throughout her battle with cancer.

Besides her loving husband, she is survived by her children and grandchildren: Wayne (Rhonda) Stronks: Bret, Caleb, Cailey of Smithers, B.C; Jeanette (Les)Vonkeman: Tianna, Larissa, Marissa, Shania, Nikeadas and Thaddias of Picture Butte, AB; Trudy (Glenn) Elgersma: Erin, Megan and Kyle of Granum, AB; Melissa(Allan)Dronkelaar: Mikala, Spencer, Hunter and Connor of Tofield, AB; Glen (Natalie) Stronks of Picture Butte, AB. She is also remembered and loved by Savannah Genereaux.

Sandra is survived by her siblings: Andy (Linda) Horlings, Margaret (Ralph) Terpstra, Jenny (Al) DeJong, Marjorie Tuininga, John (MaryAnn) Horlings and George (Nancy) Horlings. Sandra also leaves behind Ben's family: John (Irene) Stronks, Dick (Ina) Stronks, Alice (Hank) Brouwer, Diny (Roelof) Scholten, Hank (Rose) Stronks, Willemien (Henry) Slomp, Anne (Gary) Withage, Bill (Alina) Stronks, JoAnne (Doug) Montgomery and MaryAnn (John) Horlings; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Sandra was predeceased by her parents Lubbertus & Jantje Horlings, her parents-in-law Hendrick & Gertruida Stronks and her brother-in-law Gordon Tuininga.

Family and Friends are invited to pay their respects between 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M., on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL at 610-4th St. S.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, June 11, 2007 at IRON SPRINGS CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, with Pastor Greg Sinclair officiating. A private family graveside will be held prior to the service.
