RUTH WILLIAMS (Stewart) of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Arthur Joseph Williams, passed away peacefully, Saturday, November 8, 2008 surrounded by love and her family at the St. Michael's Palliative Care Centre at the age of 86 years.
Ruth is survived by her daughters Penny O'Brien of Calgary and Barbara (Bill) MacFarquhar of Cremona, AB; grandchildren Kylie O'Brien of Dublin, Ireland, Heather O'Brien of Toronto, Kevin O'Brien of Lethbridge, Sarah MacFarquhar of Cremona, AB and Cameron Mac Farquhar of Cremona, AB; sister-in-law and special friend Edith Stewart (Wally) of Lethbridge; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, their families, and special friends. Ruth was predeceased by her parents Jim and Edith Stewart; sisters Marjory Thoden and Shirley Bacon; and brothers Lloyd, Ken, Doug and Wally Stewart.
Ruth was born in Radville, SK on October 8, 1922, where she completed High School. After graduating, Ruth attended Technical (Secretarial) College in Saskatoon and found employment during the war years at the Royal Bank. During this time she met Art (Ontario) the love of her life and they courted in Saskatoon. Art went off to war returning to wed Ruth in Regina on September 28, 1945. The couple moved to Lethbridge where they owned and operated Art Williams Agencies (Insurance, Travel and Real Estate) for more than 30 years. Lethbridge is where they raised their family and made many lifelong friends. Ruth served on executive committees and volunteered for many local organizations. She loved to work in the business and enjoyed reading, church, bridge, dancing, crossword puzzles, dining with friends and desserts with her lifelong friend, Peef Allison. Ruth will be missed by all who loved her and remembered for her kindness and selfless ability to help others.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at McKILLOP UNITED CHURCH, 2329 - 15 Ave South, Lethbridge, with Reverend Cathy Coates officiating.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 317 - 10th St., S., Lethbridge, AB, T1J 9Z9.
