Roy Thielen 1927 ~ 2013 Roy Alexander Thielen passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the age of 86. Dad was born at Allerston, July 24, 1927 to George and Katherine. After his parents moved to Milk River, he stayed on the farm until he purchased the former homestead of J.T. Heninger at Hay Lake in 1984 moving the family there. Dad's passion was farming, whether it was watching the crops grow or watching the cattle eat. Over the years when his children were active in 4-H, he was always there to lend a helping hand. He coached the Masinasin Mosquito Baseball League for several years, coaching the team one year to Provincials. He was also a member of the Milk River Curling Club and enjoyed a few rounds of golf. In 1989, they moved into Milk River where you would find him having coffee at the local coffee shops. In 2006, Dad moved into the Lodge. He would enjoy a good game of crib with whoever wanted to learn or hone their game and weekly bingo. Dad was a life time member of the Knights of Columbus and Elks Club. Dad is survived by his wife Margaret, children Kim, Dolores (Duane) Pittman, Sheldon, Lavonne (Perry) Reese, Kelly and John; grandchildren Justin (Ricki) Pittman, Ryan (Sarah) Pittman, Kevin Pittman, Anthony Thielen, Brant Reese, Quentin Reese; great-grandchildren Rhett and Davey Jean Pittman. He is also survived by his brothers Raymond (Ann) and Gordon A. (Pudge) (Maryetta); sister Gladys Strilchuk; sister-in-law Dorothy, brother-in-law Alec (Eileen) Kukucska as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Roy was predeceased by his parents George and Katherine, siblings Milton, Clifford, Caroline, Violet Hierath, Robert, brother-in-law's Harold Hierath & Jim Strilchuk, parent-in-laws Andrew and Margaret Kukuscka and brother-in-law Andy Kukucska. Vigil Rites will be held at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 321 Main Street North, Milk River. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Milk River with Father Dominic H. Nguyen, celebrant. Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish, donations may be made directly to either Prairie Rose Lodge, 115 3 Ave NW, Milk River, AB T0K 1M0 or to a charity of your choice.
