Ronald Elmer Halvorson was born in Provost, Alberta, on September 24, 1939. Over the years, he lived in many places, most recently making his home in Lethbridge, Alberta. His life ended on June 20, 2026, but our memories of him will live on.
Ron (often known as Ronnie) led a full and meaningful life. He started on the farm and moved to Edmonton at a young age, where he began his journey of service. He joined the RCMP and was proud to be a member of the RCMP Musical Ride before serving in various locations throughout British Columbia until his retirement.
After completing his policing career, Ron continued to take on new challenges and work in a variety of roles. He served as Mayor of Invermere, worked as a coroner and life insurance representative, and obtained his long-haul trucking license, driving across Canada and the United States. He later trained truck drivers before eventually retiring from all active employment. Ron loved being on the road, whether as an RCMP officer, a truck driver, or simply enjoying the open road on his motorcycle.
Ron enjoyed being around people and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. He loved animals, but none more so than his beloved dog and companion, Bro. His competitive nature shone through in the many activities he enjoyed, including skiing, 10-pin bowling, golfing, curling, and playing Scrabble — and he definitely liked to win!
He is survived by his loving wife, Lynda; sons Roy, Bradley (Kerry), and Jeffrey; step-daughter Breanne; grandchildren Michael (Kelly), Julia, Cameron, Jack, Ella, Tessah, Gracie, and Tai; great-grandchild Oskar; sisters Myrna (Gary) and Bonnie (Michael); brothers Calvin (Debbie) and Bryan; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Victoria and Horace Halvorson; daughter-in-law Annette; and step-son Trent.
A private interment will take place at a later date.
Family and friends are warmly invited to attend a Celebration of Life, with details to be announced at a later date.
If desired, donations in memory of Ron may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
