MRS. RENATA LYS of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Dmytro Lys, passed away at Extendicare Lethbridge on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the age of 82 years.
Born and raised in Russia, then; when separated from her parents and eight brothers and sisters during the war, the former Renata Stepanova came to live in Germany for a number of years before immigrating to Canada in 1957. She lived in Taber for a year before moving to Lethbridge where she married Dmytro Lys in November of 1963.. Renata was employed at Alberta Canning for eight years and the Catelli Company in Lethbridge for four years. These were among the varied positions Renata held during her working career. Renata has resided in Lethbridge until her passing.
Renata was a member of St Volodymyr Ukrainian-Catholic Church and was very active in church affairs. She was an avid gardener, liked to knit and crochet, possessed a great love for music, and enjoyed being with people and children. Renata enjoyed life to the fullest.
She is survived by close friends in Edmonton and Lethbridge and also throughout Canada and Germany.
Family and friends may pay their respects between 7:00PM and 9:00PM on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta.
Funeral Divine Liturgy Prayers will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Monday, October 18, 2010, at ST. VOLODYMYR UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 715 - 13 Street North, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Reverend Gary Sedgwick, celebrant. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
