On April 13, 2026 our dearly beloved wife and mother Rachel Johanna Wisse (nee) Rozendaal of Taber Alberta, passed away after a lengthy illness, at the age of 46 years. She will be deeply missed by her husband Markus Wisse and her dear children Emma, Rosalie, Hailey, Jeffrey, as well as by Rosalies boy friend Allen.
'May the almighty Lord be near unto us'
Rachel was born to Peter and Toni Rozendaal on October 26, 1979 in Lethbridge, Alberta. Together with her five siblings she grew up on her parents’ farm near Barnwell. She attended Taber Christian School through Grade 9, and completed her highschool education at Immanuel Christian School in Lethbridge. After graduating high school, she started working at the CIBC-branch in Taber. In the year 2000, she decided with her friend Monica Kreft to go to the Netherlands for half a year. The 6 months turned out to be a whole year, after which time she returned to Alberta. After a year back at home, Rachel decided once again to go back to the Netherlands, and this time she met Markus. During this time, Rachel taught English as a Second languange.
Before long, Rachel and Markus were engaged. In 2004 they were married in Canada, with their friends and family as witnesses. As a new couple, they started out by making their home in the city of Amersfoort, the Netherlands, but soon moved south, to Grijpskerke in the province of Zeeland. This is also where all their children were born.
In 2016 she was diagnosed with cancer for the first time. In 2024 the family moved to the Taber area, and then in the spring of 2025 she was diagnosed with cancer again, this time a very aggressive type. This, ultimately in God’s will, took her from us.
Besides Markus and the children, also mourning her loss are her parents Peter and Toni Rozendaal; sisters Cora-Lee (Ralph) Boot, Laureen (Lee) Bouma; brothers Jeffrey (Marjon) Rozendaal, Peter Jr., and Steven (Janita) Rozendaal; in laws Chris and Martha Wisse; sisters in law Lydia (Michael) Moeleker, Rebecca (Niels) Eckhardt, Anna (Joran) Looij, Eva Wisse; brother in law Abraham (Mirjam) Wisse, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects between 7:00pm and 8:00pm on Friday, April 17, 2026 and Saturday, April 18 at the Wisse’s home, 101005 Range Road 16-1 near Taber, Alberta.
An opportunity for Condolences is also possible from 7:00pm to 8:00pm, on Monday, April 20, 2026 at NETHERLANDS REFORMED CONGREGATION OF LETHBRIDGE, 90022 Range Road 211, Lethbridge, Alberta.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at NETHERLANDS REFORMED CONGREGATION OF LETHBRIDGE, 90022 Range Road 211, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Rev E.C. Adams officiating.
Interment to follow at the Barnwell Cemetery.
