Our beloved Rachel passed away on April 4th, 2026. She came into this world on September 22nd, 1994 and brought endless light, joy, and chaos to her family and friends. Rachel was many things: a nursing student at the University of Lethbridge (one semester shy of reaching her goal of becoming a Registered Psychiatric Nurse), a waitress and bartender loved by her ‘regulars,’ a religion teacher’s worst nightmare, and Diet Coke’s best customer. Above all, Rachel was a loving mother, daughter, big sister, granddaughter, niece, friend, and the ultimate “It Girl.”

Rachel’s too-short life was full of contradictions: she was extremely disorganized and yet always had a 4.0 GPA; she may not have known what day it was, but she was still able to explain the complex political landscape of a current event; and despite having a full closet, she was always wearing her sister’s clothes, almost always without permission. Rachel’s most classic outfit was a cheap sweatsuit paired with her iconic Louis Vuitton bag, which she paid for in cash at the age of 18. She was a seasoned world traveler but found great comfort in being at home. Rachel was a great friend and an awful driver, wrecking every car she ever drove to the great dismay of her parents. She always strove for perfection, and frequently achieved it, although she never quite saw it that way. Despite her busyness, Rachel always found time to dispense sound advice to her sisters and their friends, as she truly was everyone’s big sister.  She was perpetually and unapologetically late, yet always showed up for others with compassion and humanity.

Rachel was born to be a mother. The world is incredibly fortunate to have so much of Rachel reflected in her 6-year-old daughter, Gianna. Rachel’s selfless kindness, witty humour, and magnetic personality, as well as her love of animals, learning, and Costco hot dogs will live on through Gia forever.

As the smartest member of the Lindsay family, Rachel’s brilliance led her to win spelling bees, dinner table arguments, and academic awards with remarkable ease. If Rachel could read this, she would certainly have a list of useful and poignant edits. With a contagious smile and an iconicaly memorable laugh (most often at her own jokes), Rachel’s light was the brightest in every room. Rachel was so funny. She could laugh at herself, and she reminded others to laugh at themselves, too (she kindly assisted with this by making fun of you). She taught us that humour can carry you through your darkest moments, something we are trying to draw upon during this most difficult time.

Rachel will be remembered for her resilience and perseverance. She faced challenges and struggles (as all the best people do), but this is not her legacy. Her legacy is watching Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants with her younger sisters, making bathtub dance parties (make-shift strobe light and all) with her daughter Gianna, bickering with her mother about how to best sleep-train Gianna (and ultimately conceding that her mother was right), and beating her father down the ski hill at the age of 13, not once but twice.

In lieu of flowers, Rachel’s family requests that you please share stories, pictures, and videos of our beloved Rachel. In her spirit, you may also wish to offer an act of kindness to someone in need.

Be at peace, our darling Rachel. We love you, and we are so proud of you.

Rachel’s family is choosing to mourn her beautiful life privately.
