PHILIP URBAN ""URB"" GALLANT of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Sally Gallant, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 9, 2010 at the age of 81 years.
Urb was born on February 23, 1929 in Hope River, PEI. As a young man he travelled out west working his way across Canada. He settled for a short time in Calgary where he met and married Sally Neufeld. They then moved to Coaldale where they raised their 3 boys and he resided for over 35 years. Urb worked at the Consolidated Concrete Plant in Lethbridge as the yard foreman for most of his working career. Sally predeceased Urb in 1983 and after a few years he retired and moved to Lethbridge, where he has resided since. Urb was an avid card and crib player and enjoyed many crib tournaments and even competed in the Alberta Seniors Games as a crib champion. Urb loved cars and prided himself as being able to fix most types of engines and spent many hours in his garage fixing family and friends mechanical problems. Urb was a loving father and proud grandfather and a good friend to many people and will be remembered and missed by all.
Urb is survived by his sons Stanley, Stephen (Dawn) and Wayne (Diane); grandchildren Russell (Jordana), Jeni, Charity, Stephen, Philip, Carola, Katherine, Elizabeth and Stanley; sister Elsie Davies; brother Ray (Mary) Gallant and his beloved Mary Mercer; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Besides his wife Sally, Urb was predeceased by his parents Adrian and Cecilia Gallant, his sisters Rita Buote and Cecilia Gallant and 3 brothers-in-law.
Vigil Rites (prayers) will be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, led by Teresa Grice.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00pm on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at ST. BASIL'S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604 - 13 Street North, Lethbridge, AB with Father Raul Hernandez, officiating. Interment to follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.
