PETER JOHN HNIDAN, born October 12, 1917 passed away in his home in Lethbridge on August 21, 2007. Peter is survived by and will be missed by his son Dennis (Effie) Hnidan, his daughter Kathleen Hnidan (Debbie Yanota), step sons Don (Carol) Richardson and Jim Richardson, his sister Mary Tunke and brothers Billy and Roy. Numerous grand children, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive him. Peter was predeceased by his first wife Doreen (Buxton), his second wife Jean (Richardson), a brother Victor, a sister Helen and a grandson Kenneth.
Peter was raised on a homestead in Zawale, Alberta and often shared stories of his childhood and growing up in the depression and war years. He left Zawale to attend school in Edmonton to become a machinist. He moved to Calgary and worked at the Ogden shops during the war. He later went on to a long career with Independent Machinery Ltd., retiring in 1984 to London, Ontario. Peter and Jean spent over twenty years in London with Jean's family where Peter spent countless hours at their family farm Meadowlily. After Jean's passing, Peter returned to Alberta and settled in Lethbridge to be nearer to his Alberta family, where he remained until his sudden passing.
A private family service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make a donation to a charity of their choice.
