MRS. PAULINE STURTEVANT of Claresholm, formerly of Milk River, beloved wife of the late Mr. Hugh Sturtevant, passed away at the Claresholm General Hospital on Sunday, August 29, 2010 after a brief illness at the age of 87 years.
Pauline was born on the farm near Foremost, Alberta on March 11, 1923 to Sebastian ""Buster"" and Clara Kultgen. She was the oldest of four children. Pauline attended school on horseback at Burlington school. She always planned to finish school and become a teacher but due to eye problems was only able to complete grade 9.
Pauline worked as a waitress in Foremost and Lethbridge in the 1940's prior to her marriage to Hugh Sturtevant on October 29, 1948.
Pauline and Hugh moved to the farm at Lucky Strike. Pauline always drove grain truck for harvest and grew a big garden. There was always lots of pickling, canning and freezing in the fall.
Pauline was an active member of the community with the Lucky Strike Community Club as well as the United Church. Upon retirement to Milk River she remained busy singing in the United Church Choir and serving on the Hospital Auxiliary. She had many hobbies such as ceramics, cake decorating, knitting, and crocheting, as well as playing cards.
Pauline was predeceased by her husband Hugh in 2004, her parents, brother Joseph, and an infant son.
She is survived by her daughter Karen (Ron) Jensen, their children Corey (Ginny), Kristie (Jason) Head; daughter Charlene Sturtevant, her children Roann (Harry) Sarafinchan), Melisa (Paul) Nadeau; daughter Elaine (Rod) Kettles, and their sons Nate and Rylan; and eight great-grandchildren; brother Lawrence (Barbara) Kultgen; sister Josephine Shardlow; sisters-in-law Mary Sturtevant and Betty Kultgen, and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Pauline will be greatly missed by her family and friends. At the families request, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the MS Society of Canada, 175 Bloor Street East, Suite 700, North Tower, Toronto, Ontario, M4W 3R8, or to a charity of one's choice.
Family and Friends are invited to pay their respects between 7:00PM and 9:00PM, on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at the MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta.
For those unable to attend, a visitation service will also be held from 12:00PM until 1:00PM, on Friday, September 3, 2010 at the MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00PM, on Friday, September 3, 2010 at the MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Reverend Mary Young officiating. Interment will follow in the Archmount Cemetery.
