Beverly Jean Pashuk

Official Obituary of

25/6/1933 - to - 26/7/2014

Beverly Jean Pashuk (nee Austin), beloved wife of Walter Pashuk, passed away in Lethbridge peacefully with her family by her side, on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at the age of 81 years. Bev was born in Magrath, Alberta to Flora and Harry Austin, and spent her childhood and much of her adult life in Magrath. She graduated from the University of Calgary Normal School and began her teaching career. Early in her career she spent several rewarding years in Spring Coulee's two-room school and in Magrath Elementary School. Many years later, while teaching full time, she received her Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge, something she was very proud of having accomplished. One of Bev's greatest joys was being a teacher and she spent most of her career in Lethbridge School District, retiring from several years at Galbraith Elementary School. She absolutely loved teaching and seeing her students grow and learn. She was delighted that, throughout her life, she had the opportunity to see her former students in adulthood, and hear that they had fond memories of being in her classroom. She was recognized for her dedication to teaching with one of the very first Alberta Teachers' Association Excellence in Teaching Awards. Music was also a big part of Bev's life. In addition to being an elementary school music teacher, she played organ for several United Churches. She could often be heard singing familiar songs and would often burst into song when a song title seemed appropriate. In her retirement, she explored her artistic talents by painting and doing cross-stitch. Bev and Walt spent many days golfing with friends at Henderson Lake Golf Club. Over the past year, Bev was challenged with health concerns but always tried to remain positive and optimistic. She was exceedingly grateful for the support she received from friends, commenting frequently about how very lucky she was to have such wonderful people around her. Besides her loving husband, Walter, she is survived by her daughter Wendy (Allan) Fox, her son Robert Pashuk (Brad McCarty) and her granddaughter Ashley Fox (Cody Reid). Bev was predeceased by her parents, her sister Marion Rice, her brother-in-law Russell Rice and close family friends Esther and Floyd Toomer. A Memorial Service will be at 11:00am on Friday, August 1, 2014 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, with Reverend Aldeen McKay, officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 317-10th Street South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 2M7
Service Date: August 1, 2014

Hi Wendy and family. My mom told me about your mom passing away. I was really sad to hear that. I have so many memories of you and your mom as we were growing up. I often went to the United Church with your family, and they took us to The Marquis Hotel in Lethbridge for lunch (which was so upscale then). I also remember being at the Waterton Golf course with your parents. Bev was the only mom in our crowd that said call me Bev not Mrs. Pashuk.

So sad to hear the news. I have so many happy memories of Aunt Bev. I'm certain my love of music was inspired when I was a wee one on Aunt Bev's piano in the living room. Our deepest condolences. Kevin & Leslie
