Jeanne Owen
1940 ~ 2016
With both sadness and gentle relief, the family of Jeanne Annette Owen (Rider), announces her passing on Friday, April 8, 2016 at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit at the age of 75 years.
Jeanne, beloved wife of Eddie Owen for the last 58 years, is also survived by her 4 children, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren - daughter Deanne (Pete) Giesbrecht and their children Chris(Cindy) and their son Sabastian, Dex (Jessica) and their daughter Searra, Tasha (Dalllas Pilon), daughter Jody (Brian) Kundrik, son Blaine (Darla) Owen their children Chelsea, Kamryn and Jacob and Wes (Shanley) Owen and daughter Kailee. She is also survived by her sister Lenora Glover as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jeanne was born to John and Rita Rider on June 13, 1940 in Lethbridge, Alberta and was raised and went to school in the Readymade community. After marrying Eddie in 1958 they moved to the family farm in North Tempest. She worked at the Royal Bank prior to meeting Eddie. After their marriage she helped support the family by working at Robinson Store, Martins IGA, Sears and Lethbridge Exhibition Horse Race Track. They sold the farm but remained on the acreage until 2003 when they moved to Coaldale. In 2014 Jeanne and Ed moved to Lethbridge where she resided until her passing.
After selling the farm they enjoyed their retirement by travelling all over the world and visited over 28 countries. Jeanne was very active in her community being a chartered member of the Kinette Club, Sunday School Teacher, 4H and many fundraisers. One of the highlights of Jeanne’s life was chaperoning the Young Voyager Program escorting 20 local high school kids to Newfoundland and hosting 20 from Quebec.
Jeanne spent many years spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was excited about another great grandchild who will join the family in August. Her love of gardening continued and in Coaldale she was known to have one of the most unique gardens. She thoroughly enjoyed helping with the Communities in Bloom Program in Coaldale, especially the year Coaldale won the award.
The family would like to thank Dr. Oviatt, Dr. Ireland and the staff at St. Michaels Palliative Care facility.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish, memorial donations may be made to liver and cancer research.
At Jeanne’s request a private immediate family only service will be held. The family invites you to Celebrate her Life by joining them on April 15th at COAST HOTEL, 526 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with a formal tribute to Jeanne at 2 p.m.
