MRS. VERONICA OBBAGY of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. John Obbagy, passed away peacefully at the St. Michael's Care Centre on Friday, February 5, 2010 at the age of 100 years.

Veronica was born in Czechoslovakia on November 28, 1909 to Michael and Clara Lengyel. She was the 3rd oldest of 5 girls and 4 boys. She was 18 years old when she immigrated to Canada in March 1928. She worked at the Holy Cross in Calgary then worked on the Mike Mueller farm near Warner. Through friends, she met her future husband, John. They were married in St. Patrick's Church on August 9, 1930 with the reception at the 1-17 Hungarian Hall. They farmed in 1-17 until they moved to Lethbridge in October 1966.

She had many interests. Her flowers and garden were her passion. She won many awards for her flowers and vegetables. She was a great cook. She also enjoyed quilting. She was a member of the CWL in Milk River and Lethbridge. She was also a member of the Hungarian Oldtimers. Her greatest love was her family. She especially had a soft spot for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Veronica is survived by her daughter Helen Svrcek, her sons; John (Lucille) and Les (Sharon), her son-in-law Harold Dalton, as well as 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Besides her loving husband John, she was predeceased by her parents, her brothers and sisters, her daughter Olga Dalton, her grandson Stanley Dalton and a great grandson Jamie Svrcek.

Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at 7 pm on Friday, February 12, 2010 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4th Street South, Lethbridge, AB.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 12th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, with Father Raul Hernandez, celebrant.

Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge, Alberta.
