Nick was born March 23, 1924 in Haarlemmermeer, the Netherlands. He served with the Dutch army in Indonesia (1945-1949), and loved to reminisce about those times. With his family, he immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands in 1950 and settled in Southern Alberta. Nick and Gerda were married in 1953 and together they raised their family on the acreage near Diamond City. He worked in the sand and gravel industry while farming on the side with Gerda.

Nick loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He was a faithful member of Maranatha Christian Reformed Church and served as a council member.

After retiring, Nick volunteered together with Gerda for numerous community organizations. He was an avid reader and enjoyed walking many miles. His interests were broad and he could encourage good discussions about faith and world affairs. Nick and Gerda had the privilege of travelling together; he had a passion for exploring new places.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday June 20, 2012 at 1:00PM in the MARANATHA CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 260 McGill Blvd W, Lethbridge, AB with Pastor Tony Maan, officiating.
