Nelson Doenz

It is with great sadness that we share that Nelson Doenz, loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away suddenly on April 4, 2026 in Warner, Alberta.

Son of Leo and Helen Doenz, Nelson was born March 26,1955 in Lethbridge, Alberta and was raised on the family farm, where his childhood was filled with open fields, hard work, cattle and the simple joys of rural life. Nelson attended the University of Alberta, playing hockey with the Golden Bears, followed by a backpacking trip to Europe with friends where they visited the origins of the Donz Family in Switzerland. After returning home he married his loving wife Paula on February 26, 1977. Together they continued to build the Doenz Ranches family legacy.

Nelson lived his life with integrity, genuine love of his family, friends, community and stewardship for agriculture - especially his cattle.

Nelson loved the ranch and proudly carried the legacy, started by the generations before him of Doenz Ranches Limited. He is predeceased by his parents, Leo and Helen Doenz, brother Christian Doenz, and sister Beverly Jessop.

Nelson never lost his love for checking the cows. Either in the corrals or pastures, he could tell you the name of each animal and often was found giving a cow a good scratch while walking through the herd. He proudly left his mark of integrity and genuine care for quality cattle on Doenz Ranches, surrounding himself with good people or it could be said friends, family, nieces, nephews and the agriculture community were drawn to him. His quiet and thoughtful nature endeared people to him. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Paula, their two children: Kristy (Ken) Robinson and Bradley (Veronica) Doenz, grandsons Jordy and Branson, his sister: Holly Godson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Nelson will always be remembered for his unconditional love and friendship.

Honouring Nelson’s request, there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Life may be announced at a later date.
