24/7/1910 - to - 9/12/2011
It is with great sadness that we announce that JACOB MURRAY passed away on Friday, December 9, 2011. Jacob, (Jay) was born July 24, 1910 in Piusville, PEI, the first son of John and Sarah Murray. He leaves to mourn his wife Ida, his daughter Sara, grandchildren, Murray, (Corrine) Rouse and their children Jake, Josh, Jayden, Jed, and Taneeka; Sonya O'Halloran and her children Jesse, Travis, Liam and Nicole; Ida's children; Tom Wheeler and his children Kyle and Scot, (Barbara); Marilyn (Steve) Gillies and their children Tobi, (Myles) and Rod Gillies. Jay had five brothers and six sisters with his youngest sister Dossie in Boston remaining as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jay worked on his parent's farm and early in his youth he went to work at the Waltham Watch factory in Boston. He was a meticulous man who was always good with his hands.
After moving back to PEI, Jacob drove to Alberta through the US because of better road conditions. In these early years Jacob and one of his brothers saw an opportunity to make some money by transporting horses from Alberta to PEI by train. While living on PEI, he owned a gas station and bought a farm. On the farm he built a large barn with the trees he felled from the land.
When he moved to Alberta he worked for the Tiffin family dairy farm before buying a gravel truck and becoming a truck driving man.
His last working venture he decided to try his hand at water well drilling and he was very successful at this.
Jay lived to the ripe age of 101. Many will remember Jay and Ida for their dancing prowess as they won many awards in Lethbridge and area and in Yuma, AZ where they spent many happy winters together. Others will remember Jay for his wonderful garden vegetables and his willingness to roto-till neighbor's gardens even when he was a 100 years young.
He was a wonderful man who was loved by all for his wit and humor and his wonderful stories from years ago. Jacob will be missed by family and friends from PEI, Alberta and many parts of the USA.
We will miss you: husband, dad, grandfather, great-granddaddy and friend.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Celebration and Remembrance at 2:00 pm on Monday, December 12, 2011 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4th Street South, Lethbridge.
