4/7/1910 - to - 27/5/2010

Service Date: June 1, 2010

MRS. MILDRED BYRNE born July 4, 1910 in Lost Lake (now known as Enchant), softly slipped away on May 27, 2010 at West Highlands Good Samaritans just a few weeks prior to her 100th birthday.

She is survived by her children Dennis (Barbara), William (Louise), Mary Ann Burge, Dianne (Frits) Van Dyl, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and her youngest brother Everest Johnson.

Mildred was predeceased by her beloved husband Ralph in 1973, her parents Leslie and Harriet Johnson, two brothers (Melvin and Allen Johnson), two sisters (Marion York and Edna Kurtz) and her son-in-law Arthur James (Jim) Burge.

Mildred's teaching career spanned over 35 years beginning in one room school houses, progressing to Westminster Elementary and Lethbridge Collegiate High School and finally culminating at the Lethbridge Community College where she taught business courses in Adult Education.

Upon her completion of teaching, Mildred devoted herself to volunteer service within the community of Lethbridge. She was the mainstay of several committees and worked tirelessly for the benefit of others.

She received the Bronze Medal of Bravery from both the Federal and Provincial Governments of Canada for assisting in the rescue of an elderly lady from a burning house.

Aside from all the accolades, Mom always said her greatest achievements and blessings in life were her 4 children, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.

We will miss you Mom. You were our greatest blessing.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4th Street South, Lethbridge, with Reverend Larry Hankinson, officiating.

A private family interment will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 207, 542-7th St. S., Lethbridge, AB, T1J 2H1, or to the charity of your choice.
