MEL (MELVIN) HAMILTON of Lethbridge beloved husband of Mary, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2012 at the age of 83 years.

Besides his loving wife Mary, Mel is survived by his three daughters Darcy, Glenna and Kathy; 3 grandchildren Brett, Alyssa, and Jesse; twin brother Merv of Winnipeg as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Mel was born in Warner, AB on June 19, 1929 (According to legend Mel was born 2 minutes before his younger twin brother) He moved to Lethbridge with his family in the fall of 1932. He attended LCI High School and remained in Lethbridge. Mel married Mary Kresnoak on April 14, 1950 and together they started a family of their own.

Mel held several jobs in the area including working for Canadian Pacific Railways, the City of Lethbridge, Fred King Motors, Canada Life Assurance and King's Row Builders.

Mel had strong family and community ties to the city. He became a member of the 20th Independent Field Battery in 1950 and retired as Commanding Officer with the Rank of Major in 1971. Mel was an active member of both the Kiwanis Club and the I.O.O.F, as well as along standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Local Chapter of the A.N.A.F. Mel enjoyed curling and was a member of the team that won the Ford Senior Men's Curling Championship for the 1997-98 season.

He was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Pavllis Hamilton, his sister Voan Masson all of Lethbridge.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday August 28, 2012 at the ST. AUGUSTINE'S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 411-11 Street South with Canon Allan McCuaig, officiating. Inurnment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish may make memorial donations to a charity of their choice.
