MRS. BARBARA GEORGINA MATTHEWS of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Sidney Matthews, passed away at the Edith Cavell Care Centre on Monday, May 30, 2011 at the age of 95 years.

She is survived by her children Lorna (David) Bauer of Kelowna, Bryan (Lorna) Matthews, Jim (Julie) Matthews both from Lethbridge, her grandchildren; Valerie Moy, Colleen (Mike) Maser, Leah (Jason) Johansen, Sheena Gunness, Alicia (Mark) Bulmer, Nathan (Lea-Ann) Matthews, Amara Matthews, along with 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

She was predeceased by an infant daughter Betty Florence, her parents Elizabeth and Thomas Causey of Taber and sisters Doris Birth and Olive McLean, brothers Dave Causey and Jim Causey.

Barbara was born in Taber on April 19, 1916. Her family moved to Lethbridge in the late 1930's, where she married Sidney Matthews on March 29, 1941. Together they bought a home on 19 Street North in Lethbridge where they raised their three children. Barbara enjoyed her family, knitting, baking and camping with her close friends at Waterton and along the Old Man River.

She was a kind, thoughtful and generous mother and will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered.

A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, June 3, 2011 at MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY, Scenic Drive South, Lethbridge. Relatives and friends are invited to gather for a reception to follow at the residence of Bryan and Lorna Matthews, 4001 Elm Place South.
