MARY PTYCIA of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Walter Ptycia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the age of 74 years.
Mary was born on August 9, 1934 in the District of Churchill (Ituna, SK) to Paul and Annie Tyshkewich. She attended grade school at the Churchill District Community School and the Mohyla Institution, Saskatoon, SK. After school she worked at the Sanitorium in Saskatoon. When they moved to Lethbridge mom worked at A.E. Microtele for numerous years until the plant shut down. She started working as home maker for Family Home Care Inc, for the last 18 years until her retirement. Mary loved serving God and the Church. She devoted many hours and loved exploring other Ukrainian Churches and Cathedrals. She was active for many years with the Ladies' Aid and Church Council of Ss. Peter & Paul's Greek Catholic Parish. Mary was an avid seamstress. She could sew anything out of nothing. She loved being in her sewing room. Mary loved people and loved life. She loved being outside and puttering in her flower beds.
Mary is survived by her daughter Avery (Craig) Myers of Vauxhall; sons Dale (Bev) Ptycia of Ottawa and Duane (Pam) Ptycia of Lethbridge; grandchildren Kurt Myers of Lethbridge, Thomas, Katelyn and James Ptycia of Ottawa, Daniel of Calgary and David of Lethbridge, Jordan Ptycia of Errington, BC and Chance Ptycia of Parksville, BC; sisters Pearl (Bill) Chorney of Saskatoon, SK, Irene (Gary) Skolas of Kitimat, BC, Nettie Carriere of Maple Ridge, BC, Martha Tyshkewich of Winnipeg, MB, Ann Gropp of Kenora, ON and Olga (Rob) Piasta of Calgary; brothers Boris (Ruby) Tyshkewich and Andrew (Evelyn) Tyshkewich; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Besides her beloved husband Walter, Mary was predeceased by her parents Paul and Annie Tyshkewich; son Vernon Ptycia and brothers Nick, Dmetro and Paul Peter Tyshkewich.
Funeral Parastasis Prayers will be celebrated at 7:00 pm, on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Ss. PETER & PAUL GREEK CATHOLIC PARISH, 12B St., 7 Ave., N., Lethbridge, AB.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, on Friday, March 13, 2009, at Ss. PETER & PAUL GREEK CATHOLIC PARISH, with Father Gary Sedgwick celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.
