Mary ""Elaine"" Cairns 1953 ~ 2014

Mary ""Elaine"" Cairns of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Steven, passed away on March 10, 2014 at the age of 60 years.

Elaine was born on October 3, 1953 in Sudbury, Ontario to Oscar Derouin and Marie (Barbeau) Derouin. She loved exploring the old mine sites in the Sudbury Basin where she grew up. When she moved west, she continued to search out and explore old mines.

Elaine was a very quiet and reserved person. However, when an issue was important to her, she presented a very strong, well researched point of view. We could count on her to listen carefully and research thoroughly. One of her many jobs was writing the feature article for the Lethbridge Shopper. She had planned to write a biography of her beloved cats. Elaine's life can be summarized in the words of Edward Kennedy ""The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives and the dreams shall never die"".

Besides her loving husband Steven Cairns, Elaine is survived by her daughter Natalie Cairns.

Elaine was predeceased by her parents Oscar Derouin and Marie (Barbeau) Derouin.

Friends and Family are invited to pay their respects at 7:00-8:00pm on Monday, March 17, 2014, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4th Street South, Lethbridge, AB.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am, on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at ST. BASILS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604-13th Street North, Lethbridge AB., with Father Nathan, officiating. Inurnment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
