MARIA MOKOSCH (nee Oswald), beloved wife of the late Andreas Mokosch, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital with her family by her side on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at the age of 99 years.

Maria is survived by her sons Eric (Linda Larson) and Erwin (Debra Stoltenberg), daughter-in-law Diane Mokosch, granddaughters Laura (Terry) Mehrer, Kathryn (Lyndon) Cousins, and Julie Mokosch, and great-grandsons Denton, Royden and Brendan Mehrer.

Maria was predeceased by her parents, four brothers and her husband Andreas.

Maria was born on December 1, 1910 in a small German town called Honneshau in Slovakia. In 1939 she met and married her husband Andreas and together they made their home in Honneshau. After the tumult of World War II, the family had to relocate to East Germany in 1946. In 1947 the now family of four bravely made their way into West Germany and finally emigrated to Canada in 1953 making Edmonton their home.

Maria was a true survivor, overcoming the loss of her parents in her very early childhood, and the destruction and chaos of World War II. The family started a new life in Canada with enthusiasm and hard work. Maria made a warm and welcoming home for family, friends and students, always offering lots of camaraderie and good food - especially her famous Apple Pie.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, March 26, 2010 at ST. MARTHA'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 355 Columbia Blvd. West, Lethbridge, with Father Fernando Genogaling, celebrant.

Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Edmonton, Alberta.
A Memorial Service will follow at 12 noon on Monday March 29, 2010 at ST. BONIFACE GERMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 9510 - 101 Avenue, Edmonton, AB, with Father George Neumann, SAC, celebrant.
