Margaret Sokvitne

MRS. MARGARET SOKVITNE of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Sigurd Sokvitne, passed away after a short illness on Sunday, October 4, 2009 at the age of 108 years.

Margaret was born on a small Norwegian farm called ""Nesbo"" on September 17, 1901. This small farm was situated in a narrow valley which broadened out to reach one of the small arms of the Hardanger fjord in western Norway. She had 4 siblings - one sister and three brothers. Margaret's fiancé, Sigurd Sokvitne, left Norway in March 1927 and Margaret followed him to Canada in April 1929. They were married in October 1929 in Calgary and homesteaded on a small farm west of Lomond. Sigurd and Margaret worked the farm until 1966 when they moved to Lethbridge where she has since lived. Margaret has been an active member of the Evangelical Free Church. In December 2006 Margaret moved to Park Meadows Good Samaritan's where she resided until her passing. Margaret will be remembered and missed by her friends and family for her gentle spirit, courage and strength.

Margaret is survived by her daughters, Shirley and Jean Sokvitne of Lethbridge, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families in Canada, United States and Norway.

Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Sigurd, in August 1983 and a twin daughter, Signe, in October 1994.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respect between 7:00PM and 8:00PM, on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at the MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 St., S., Lethbridge, Alberta.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00PM, on Thursday, October 8, 2009, at the EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH, 4717 - 24 Ave., S., Lethbridge, Alberta, with Pastor Ian Lawson officiating.
