MARGARET MARY MACKIN of Lethbridge passed away peacefully on Monday, February 9, 2009 at the age of 95 years.

Margaret was born in Beaver Mines, Alberta (west of Pincher Creek), on June 23, 1913, the second child of John and Katherine Mackin. When Margaret was around 2 years old, she moved with her family (at that time an older brother Arthur, a younger sister Alice and her parents) to Lethbridge, after which another younger sister Kay was born. The Mackins lived in the McLean District and her father was the boiler engineer for the Lethbridge jail. Margaret lived in Lethbridge for the rest of her life.

Margaret was deeply religious and very private, and she did not marry. Her remaining family of 3 nieces - Denise Beauregard of Pincher Creek, AB; Kathy Granlin of Qualicum Beach, BC; Carol Laidlaw of Okotoks, AB; and 1 nephew - Len Murfin of Paradise Valley, AB, are the children of her sister, Alice Murfin. Because Auntie Margaret was so private, we unfortunately have little information on her, however; we believe she was educated at the McLean School and McNally School in Lethbridge. We do know she worked for a time as a clerk at various stores in Lethbridge, however; when her mother passed away in 1954, she returned home to be a homemaker for her father. Since his passing in 1969, Margaret lived on her own, most recently at Hardy Manor, then Blue Sky Lodge and then Edith Cavell Care Centre where she passed away.

Margaret is survived by her nieces Denise Beauregard, Kathy Granlin, Carol Laidlaw and nephew Len Murfin.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents John and Katherine Mackin; sisters Alice Murfin, Kay Mackin and brother Arthur Mackin.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM, on Saturday, February 14, 2009, at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 St., S., Lethbridge, AB, with Pastor Brian Magee officiating. Interment to follow in the St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Service Date: February 14, 2009
