Official Obituary of

18/10/1923 - to - 1/6/2007

MR. BERT MAGYAR, beloved husband of Beatrice Magyar, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2007 at the age of 83 years.

Bert was born on October 18, 1923 in Ramocsahaza, Eastern Hungary. At the age of 4 years Bert immigrated to Canada with his mother, Anna (Budai) Magyar and his sister Mary. They joined Bert's father Gabor Magyar who immigrated one year earlier and after living in various places in southern Alberta the family eventually settled in the Coaldale area.
During school Bert was a member of the Barnwell Junior Grain Club and won a free trip to the Olds School of Agriculture. He represented the Barnwell High School on CJOC Radio Show ""Honors for Scholars"" and graduated from High School in 1944. Bert went on to study music at the US School of Music and formed a dance orchestra in 1945. He joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1949 and played with the RCMP Bands in Regina and Ottawa. From 1954 to 1956 he attended the Law-LaSalle Extension University and in 1966 Bert attended a Rural Leadership Course. Bert worked as a Tax Accountant at H&R block from 1968 to 1969. In 1970 he attended a farm Business Management Course at the Lethbridge Community College. Bert raised quality crops enabling the family to win 1st prizes with their respective entries of rapeseed and wheat at the Lethbridge Ag Expo Seed Fair in 1974.
Bert was a member of the Alberta Wheat Pool, United Farmers of Alberta Cooperative Ltd. and former delegate representing the County of Lethbridge from 1973 to 1981, former member of the AWP delegate Advisory Committee, former member/Chairman of Lethbridge County Extension, Advisory Committee in 1970, Associate Member of the Alberta Institute of Agrologists, former Director/Secretary-Treasurer of Enchant Coop Seed, Cleaning Association Ltd. from 1975 to 1983, former Director/Vice-President of Turin/Iron Springs Rural Electrification Association for 12 years.

Bert traveled to 50 states in the United Sates of America, 11 countries in Europe, Australia and the South Pacific and all the provinces and territories in Canada.

Besides his loving wife Beatrice, Bert is survived by his daughter Cherylene Brewin and son Bryan (Judy) Magyar; grandchildren Stacey Vammen (Gord Kettyle), Stephanie (Les) Wold, Naomi and Pete Wiebe; great-grandchildren Evan Vammen, Josh Kettyle, Lukas Wold; brothers Frank Magyar, Louis Magyar; sisters Mary Revak, Margaret Lang and Isabelle Magyar; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Anna (Budai) Magyar and Gabor Magyar and sister Jolane Tokariuk.

Family and Friends are invited to pay their respects between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M., on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610-4th St. S., Lethbridge.

A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610-4th St. S., Lethbridge. Interment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

Those who wish memorial donations may be made in Bert's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 210D, 12 A St. N., Lethbridge, AB, T1H 2J1 or the Canadian Cancer Society 317-10th St. S., Lethbridge, AB, T1J 9Z9.
