MAGNUS HOUGEN of Foremost, beloved husband of Isabella Hougen of 55 years, passed away peacefully with his loved ones at his side on February 28, 2008 at the age of 86 years.
Magnus was born in Norway on May 26, 1921 and immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of three. He grew up in the Foremost area and began working on various farms. After serving in the Air Force overseas during WWII he returned and started his own farm. He married Isabella in 1952 and began raising their family of three daughters. In his younger years he loved fishing, camping trips with his family and later on golf. Magnus and Isabella spent many sunny winters golfing and playing cards in Arizona with his brothers and friends.
Magnus was a much loved and admired husband, father and grandfather. His quiet wisdom and gentle guidance will be sorely missed by all who loved him.
Besides his loving wife Isabella, Magnus is survived by his 2 daughters Donna (John) Powell of Calgary and Kristine Varty of Lethbridge; son-in-law Willie Stang of Red Deer; grandchildren Jeremy (Melanie) Powell, Jacqueline (Shayne) Arnold, Brett (Marnie) Powell, Janelle Stang (Mike), Lauren Stang (Mark), Braeden, Devynn and Jared Varty; 2 great-grandchildren; sister Myrtle Allison; brothers Arne (Delores), Charlie (Dolores) and Marvin (Pauline); sisters-in-law Peggy Hougen, Steva Hougen and Freda Canavan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Magnus was predeceased by his daughter Arlene Stang; brothers Palmer, Trygve and Engwald and nephews Lorn and Larry.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, March 3, 2008 at the Foremost Community Hall with Pastor Gary Aiken, officiating.
