Mae Popma 1923 ~ 2014 Mae Popma, beloved wife of the late George Popma, and mother to daughters Dr. Barbara Popma and Anne Popma, passed away in Lethbridge Regional Hospital on October 10, 2014 at the age of 91 years. Mae was born on May 24, 1923 in the Netherlands, one of eight children of Gerrit Jan and Elbertje van den Top. She and her husband emigrated to Canada in 1948, where they began a new life in Southern Alberta, eventually settling in Lethbridge. Mae was a devoted mother and gracious home-maker who enjoyed walking her dogs and raising orchids in her greenhouse. In addition to her two daughters and their husbands Richard Vanderheide and Garry Watson, Mae is survived by sisters Joanne and Trudi, brother Bert, sixteen nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank her care-givers at Prairie Ridge in Raymond, where she spent the last five years of her life, and Lethbridge Regional Hospital, where she spent the last month. A Graveside Service and internment will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY, Lethbridge, AB
