Loretta Golby-Davies

Loretta Ann Golby-Davies of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Lewis Davies, passed away peacefully at Chinook Regional Hospital on Friday, May 26, 2023, after a valiant struggle with cancer.

Loretta was the eldest of five children of Barbara and Kenneth Anderson of Lethbridge. She attended school in Milk River and Coalhurst and then Lethbridge College. After attending Lethbridge College, Loretta started her career in Information Technology in Edmonton working for AGT from 1981-1992 and then for ISM from 1993 to 2000. After over 20 years in the corporate world, her entrepreneurial spirit kicked in and she formed Allegro Associates with partners John McMillan and Glen Mitchell. She devoted over 20 years to its success until her retirement, and it continues to be an ongoing success.

Loretta's interests started to shift more into her art which she had pursued for many years in her spare time. She and Lewis pursued their dream and moved to Salt Spring Island where she operated under her art enterprise Colour by Loretta. She was soon involved as Treasurer and Director on the board of the Salt Spring National Art Prize (SSNAP). With her business acumen and technical expertise she made significant contributions to SSNAP during their time on SaltSpring Island.

Loretta loved to travel extensively and had a sense of adventure, organizing a bicycle tour through the Gulf Islands with a group of friends and she and Lewis went sailing through the Greek Islands. She also ensured travel included the opportunities to expand her art knowledge.

Loretta and Lewis moved back to Alberta recently to be nearer families. This has proven to be fortuitous as family support has been there for her over her cancer journey. Loretta documented her cancer journey on Facebook. She was so appreciative of all her many friends support as they responded with optimism and encouragement to her throughout her journey.

Besides her beloved husband Lewis Davies, Loretta is survived by and will be immensely missed by her mother Barbara; 3 sisters Janice (Mikko) Makela of Lethbridge, Cheryl Kiss of Lethbridge, Deloria (Franscisco) Many Grey Horses-Violich of Santa Cruz, CA; 1 brother Merlin (Kimberley) Anderson of Lethbridge; nieces and nephews that were very dear to her Brandt Anderson (Jessica Mclean), Sophia Makela, Emily and Zoltan Kiss (and their father Frank Kiss); Ella-Michele and Nahtayu Many Grey Horses- Violich; step son Dr. Robert Davies (Nichole Nesbitt-Papworth) of Calgary; stepdaughter Neena (Hans) Bauck of Squamish, B.C; step grandchildren Sophia, Elisabeth, Katherine Davies and Aria Nesbitt-Papworth; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Loretta was predeceased by her father Kenneth Anderson and grandparents Rachel and Joseph Hofer and Lydia and Clarence Anderson.

She will be missed by her former partner Shawn Golby and her many friends and colleagues that were very dear to her.
