Muriel Lewko

Official Obituary of

6/6/1924 - to - 12/11/2010

It is with great sadness the family of MURIEL LEWKO announces that Muriel passed away quietly on Friday, November 12, 2010 at the age of 86 years.

Muriel Lewko (nee Taylor) was born in High Coniscliffe, Yorkshire, England in 1924.

Like many, Muriel was a War Bride, marrying Peter Lewko of Lethbridge at St. Cuthbert's Cathedral, Darlington, England in May of 1944. She emigrated to Canada in 1946 to start a new life in Western Canada.

Peter and Muriel were blessed with a family of three sons, David Allen Roy (Charlotte), Robert William and Ian Ross, all of Calgary. Her family was complete with grandchildren Bradley (Samantha) and Teanna and great grandchildren Tristan and Wyatt.

Muriel's life revolved around her family, whether it be the many family gatherings, summer vacations at Rosen Lake, BC, trailering, or tending to her well known garden.

Many citizens of Southern Alberta can attest to Muriel's fondness of children by the years of volunteer time with Dorothy Gentleman at ""Aunt Dorothy's Playhouse"" on 8th Street South.

Muriel's sense of community duty is reflected in the many years of membership in Laurel Chapter of the Eastern Star, Past Matron. With Eastern Star, she was appointed Grand Representative to the State of Iowa. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile, and President of the Lethbridge Chapter.

As a member of the WBCCI (Wally Byam Airstream Club) she enjoyed International Rallies in Alberta, Saskatchewan and many places in the US while acting as club President.

Muriel will be sorely missed by Peter, her husband of 66 years, as well as her sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

The Lewko family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of Edith Cavell Nursing Home of Lethbridge for all their kindness extended to Muriel.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 19, 2010 at ST. AUGUSTINE'S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 411 11th Street South, Lethbridge, with Canon James Robinson, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society, #402 740 4 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 0N9 or the Shiners' Children's Hospital, c/o 315A-10th St. S., Lethbridge, AB, T1J 2M7.
