“It is well with my soul.”  Safe in the arms of Jesus, Bert Bolink, beloved husband of the late Gert (Schiebout) Bolink, formerly of Nobleford, AB, went home to his Lord and Saviour.  Born February 22, 1936, in the Netherlands, he passed away April 20, 2026, in Lethbridge, AB, at the age of 90 years.

Bert is survived by his children:  Brenda & Erik Vreeken, Nadine & Kris, Keenan, Katie Indenbosch, Kyle Vreeken & Taryn Sailer, Lincoln, Raya Hawkins, Jason Vreeken; Gary & Evelyn Bolink, Sarah & Rick, Grace, Clara Freeman, John & Terri-Lynn, Rhett, Georgia Bolink, Justin & Ashley Bolink; Sharon Bolink; Chris & Kathleen Bolink, Kayla Bolink, Kelsey & Emily, Daven, Emelia Bolink.

Bert was born to Gerrit Jan Bolink and Gezina Konynenbelt Bolink, in Nijverdal, Netherlands.  He went to the Christian School in Nijverdal, until his schooling was interrupted by WWII.  Bert immigrated to Canada with his parents, brother Herman, and sister Fanny, in April 1949, where they were received warmly by his mother’s three brothers and their families in the Nobleford, AB, area.  Bert attended Nobleford School and worked the sugar beet fields with his parents.  Bert married Gert on June 9, 1961, in the Monarch Reformed Church.  They made their home and life together in the Nobleford area, farming for many years before retiring to Nobleford.  Bert moved to Lethbridge when Gert was relocated to a nursing home.  Gert passed away in 2014.  He missed her terribly.

Bert’s bright blue eyes and infectious smile drew people in as he regaled them with detailed stories of the past.  He was a loving, gentle, faith-filled, Christ-like father/patriarch and example, a peppermint and ice-cream with coffee dessert eating “Opa” and “Great-Opa” to many children, a brother, cousin, and friend to many.  He cherished ALL his friends at Balmoral House.  Bert lived a long, good life and taught us many things, most importantly to follow God wholeheartedly.

As Bert’s body began to fail, he reassured his children and grandchildren with these words: “I love you.  It’s o.k.  I’m going Home.”

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.  Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord will award to me on that day.”

2 Timothy 4:7-8a
