September 14, 1916 ~ October 29, 2007

It is with great sadness that the family announced the passing of MRS. MARGARET LAKIE on Monday, October 29, 2007, beloved wife of the late Mr. Jack Lakie.

Margaret is survived by her children Ron (Gail) and their son Ryan (Taylor); Anderson (Connie) and their sons Matthew and Christopher; dear and special friends Eleanor Munroe and Lisa Cadez; as well as her sisters-in-law Marguerite Peta and Alice Peta. She was predeceased by her husband Jack and brothers Frank and Leslie.

Margaret was born in Lethbridge and was the second child of Mary Racacky and Charles Peta of the Wrentham District. After completing school in Wrentham, AB she attended the Jean Carroll School of Beauty Culture in Clagary and graduated in March of 1936. She returned work in Lethbridge where she met and married Jack. Together they raised their two sons and through Jack's work as Manager of Sick's Lethbridge Brewery/ Molson's they lived in Regina, Edmonton and Lethbridge. She volunteered at St. Michael's Hospital, was a long time member of Our Lady of Assumption Church and the Catholic Women's League as well as a past member of the Lethbridge Golf and Country Club. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed golf, bowling and playing the organ, was a gourmet cook and an accomplished oil painter and water colorist. Jack and Margaret traveled extensively including trips to Disneyland with her children and grandchildren as well as Florida and Spain. Her home heralded many great dinners and get-togethers with family and friends and the community.

The family would like to thank the nurse managers and wonderful staff at Adaptacare; to Bridget Pastoor, Liberal MLA and her staff; to Dr. Morley Wong and nursing staff of the Renal Clinic at Lethbridge Regional Hospital; to the best G.P. Dr. Steeves, Nadine and Susan; to Anderson Pharmacy, Loran and Staff; Dr Weaver, Debbie and Natalie; to Dr. Wedel and Dr. Ireland of the Palliative Care Unit; to Theresa Holfester and Shelly Lamey of Home Care you are the best! Much appreciation to Annie Yee-Bryant, O.T. for assistance with Margaret's physical needs (bed, wheelchair, etc.). To everyone for all the times we called upon you, our visits and meetings, truly, if it takes a village to raise a child, it takes an even larger village to give a senior a good quality life! We will miss all of you and never forget you!

Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at 7:00pm on Friday, November 2, 2007 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge.
