Official Obituary of

21/4/1951 - to - 20/7/2016

Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice. Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Jesus Christ.

Philippians 4:4-7

Mrs. Jenny Kooiker (nee Prummel) Beloved wife and best friend of John Kooiker for almost 46 years, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at the age of 65 years.

Jenny emigrated to Canada at the age of 3 from the Netherlands, along with her mom and dad, sister Florence, Tante, and the Slomp family. Most of her married life was spent in Coalhurst.

For many years, she wrote the Coalhurst Newsletter, always looking for human interest stories. Along with Dave Veres and Gerry McLaren, she participated heavily in getting Miner’s Days off the ground. She loved the years she spent on that. She collaborated on the book written about the history and people of Coalhurst, and had wonderful memories of the people she interviewed. She had a great passion for writing as well as artwork. Her true joys of her life were her family; her husband, kids and grandkids.

Besides her loving husband, Jenny is survived by her much loved children, Otto (Tracy) Kooiker, and Cindy (Joe) Widmer. The joys of her life, her grandchildren, will miss her dearly. Her oldest grandson Colton and his sister Kayla; her granddaughter Trinity and her brother Teal’c. She cherished each and every moment she had with them. She also leaves to mourn her sisters and brothers; Florence (Randy) Drake, Harry (Arlene) Prummel, Annie (Bill) Kooiker, Alice (Matthew) Houweling, Sharon (Andy) Brandsma, Carol Prummel, Otto (Sheila) Prummel, as well as 19 nieces and nephews and 33 great nieces and nephews; her mother-in-law Grace Kooiker, Ralph (Joanne) Kooiker, Gerald (Geraldine) Kooiker, Julian (Melinda) Kooiker, and 7 nieces and nephews. The Slomp family was always very important to her. They were always there when you needed them, and she cherished every one. She also had a great affection for Aunty Ann and Aunty Audrey, her husband’s aunts.

Jenny was predeceased by her parents Otto and Alice Prummel, father-in-law John Kooiker, her Tante Mulder, numerous aunts and uncles on both sides, and Jesse, her much loved nephew, son of Julian and Melinda.

A Private family interment will take place. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, July 25, 2016 at MARANATHA CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 260 McGill Blvd W, Lethbridge, AB with Pastor Brian Kayper, officiating.
