Konstantin Acehaida

1927 ~ 2015

Konstantin was born on April 10, 1927 in the village of Kostopol, Ukraine, the second child of Wladimir and Maria and brother to Ludmilla.

War forced the family to leave Ukraine, moving to Germany, in 1944.

Fate brought Kon and Anna together in Germany where they married and chose to immigrate to Canada in 1948.

Kon worked tirelessly in the sugar beet fields in Welling and Raymond, and lumber camps in Whitecourt through the winter, to provide for his young family.

Due to his efforts, his parents, along with his sister and her family, arrived in Canada in 1950.

By 1952 Kon and Anna found themselves working on a farm at Skiff.

Breaking prairie pasture land for grain farming was the start to his lifelong passion for farming.

Determination and tenacity resulted in a rewarding and very successful farming career in Skiff, spanning 55 years.

He was a man of integrity, generous and kind.

His word and a handshake was his contract.

He found great satisfaction and joy in providing for his family.

The “Skiff Transport” made its’ regular stops to family in Lethbridge with chickens, eggs, butter, vegetables and fruits for all to enjoy.

He took care of us all, making our lives happy and secure.

Konstantin Acehaida passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at the age of 88,

a life well lived. He will be dearly missed by his family.
