Katherine Friesen

KATHERINE FRIESEN passed away peacefully on November 30, 2008 at St. Michael's Palliative Care Centre.

She was born Katharina Thiessen on the farm near Blumenthal, SK on February 20, 1922.

Katherine is survived by her brothers Henry (Helen) Thiessen, of Rosthern, SK, Harold (Emily) Thiessen, of New West Minister, BC, Bill (Marianne) Thiessen, of Abbotsford, BC, and one sister, Mary (Victor) Reimer, of Fergus, ONT.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Carl on December 6, 2006. She was also predeceased by her parents Peter R. Thiessen, Katharina Berg Thiessen and also her step-mother Maria Loewen Thiessen; brother Pete and a sister Anne and sons-in-law Ed Maendel, Ken Gallop, Jake Van Eldik and Ed Gingrich. She is survived by her children, Deanna Van Eldik, Carol (Tony) Trofanenko, Ron (Darlene) Friesen, Patricia Maendel, Peggy Gallop, Sharon (Art) Reule, and Connie Friesen. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Katherine was a woman who spent her life in service, first to her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, then to her family and community. She will be remembered as a woman who saw something that needed to be done and went ahead and did it. Besides working outside the home she was the ultimate homemaker. Katherine's greatest joy was to be surrounded by her family. She was and is dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects between 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, with Pastor Dave Acree (of the Evangelical Free Church) officiating.
