Karl Schefter

MR. KARL ""HERMAN"" SCHEFTER of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mrs. Paula Schefter passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the age of 87 years.

Born on November 16, 1923 in Droskau, Germany, he emigrated to Canada with Paula and daughter Ingrid in 1951 and farmed in the Raymond area until 1993. He was actively involved in the Sacred Heart Church in Raymond until it closed, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. His proudest achievement was being instrumental in the establishment of a Catholic school in Raymond and he was a member of the Raymond Catholic School Board until it disbanded.

Besides his loving wife Paula, Herman is survived by his two daughters Ingrid (Bob) Gemmell of Kanata, Ont, and Annemarie (Les) Diachinsky of Lac La Biche, AB; two sons Bob (Nancy) Schefter of Raymond, AB and John (Joanne) Schefter of Lloydminster, AB; grandchildren Rob (Lindsay) Gemmell, David (Shinnel) Diachinsky, Mark (Shannon) Diachinsky, Melaine (Doug) Sokoloski, Nick (Deanna) Schefter, Matthew (Ashley) Schefter, Shelley Schefter, Jordan Schefter, Kayla Schefter and Justin Parker; great grandchildren Charliese Gemmell, Alexis Diachinsky, Landon and Pearson Sokoloski, and Carter Schefter.

Herman was predeceased by his parents Emily and Oswald, his brother Karl Noack, grandson Christopher Diachinsky and granddaughter Jenna Schefter.

A Private Family Internment was held on December 23, 2010 and a Memorial Service will be held in the spring.
