Julia Bochenko

1919 ~ 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Julia Bochenko announce her passing on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the age of 98 years.

Julia was born in Wysocko Wyzne, Poland on December 28, 1919 to Onofry and Maria Iwaniuk (Nyskohus). During the difficult years 1943 to ’45, Julia lived in Germany where she worked on a farm. The hardships of the times left a lasting impression.

After WWII, Julia immigrated to Canada. She married Nickifor Bochenko on February 18, 1950. They lived and farmed in the Picture Butte area for twenty years. During these years, they raised 5 children. In 1970, the family moved to Lethbridge.

Julia then worked at York Farms for 10 years until her retirement. She then enjoyed travelling.

Julia spent endless hours in her vegetable and flower gardens. She enjoyed having friends and family drop by on holidays or at any time. Soup or something to eat was always on the stove. No one ever left Julia’s place hungry! She spent her evenings doing beautiful embroidery.

Julia attended church regularly and volunteered at church functions. In her later years, Julia loved going out for supper or a good ice cream cone. She was a caring and generous person to everyone – a very kind soul.

Julia leaves to cherish her memory her children Mary, Sophia, Bill (donna) Irene and Paul; her grandchildren Kelley, Corey, Bob and Julie; her great-grandchildren Austin, Shean, Corbin and Mason.

She was predeceased by all of her siblings and her husband Nickifor (1990).
