John Vander wekken

Our only comfort in life and in death is that we are not our own, but belong - body and soul - unto our faithful Saviour Jesus Christ.

Our Heavenly Father has called his servant, my beloved husband, our dear father and much loved grandfather JAN (JOHN) CORNELIS VANDER WEKKEN to his eternal home on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at the age of 80 years.

Born in the Netherlands, John immigrated to Alberta in 1949 and farmed in the Picture Butte area. John is lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years Grace Vander Wekken (nee Huizing), his children Renita (Nick Timmerman), Kathy (Gary Wikkerink), Leo (Betty) Vander Wekken, Bernie (Marilyn) Vander Wekken, Liz (Ted Noordam) and his grandchildren Calvin and Jared Timmerman, Sara, Paul, Jennifer, Mark, Elizabeth and Jacob Wikkerink, Danielle, Joseph, Davida, Jaden, Dara and Jesse Vander Wekken, Anna Vander Wekken, and Eileen and Theodore Noordam.

John is survived by his brothers and sisters and their spouses: Dan (Margaret) Vander Wekken, Corrie Irvine, Sara Slomp, George Reurink, Tony (Ruth) Vander Wekken, Nelly (John Venhuis), Joanne (Joe Barthel) and Marie (Richard Thompson), and by the Huizing family, numerous nieces, nephews and relatives in the Netherlands.

John was predeceased by his infant grandchildren David, Ruth and Naomi Vander Wekken, his mother Catharina Vander Wekken, his father and second mother Leendert and Elizabeth Vander Wekken, his brother Stoffel, his sister Jenny, 5 brother-in-laws and 2 sister-in-laws.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00PM, on Monday, January 26, 2009 at the IRON SPRINGS CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, with Pastor J. Schoeman officiating. An opportunity for viewing will be given prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Huntsville cemetery.
