John, husband of Ida, passed away peacefully at home in Lethbridge on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at the age of 77 years, following a brief battle with cancer.

John is lovingly remembered by his wife Ida (nee Mantel); sons Leo (Ruth) of Burmis, Richard of Hosmer, Kevin (Paula) of Lethbridge; daughter Kerri (Ed) Van Hell of Okotoks; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as a large extended family. He is predeceased by wife Agnes in 1969 and daughter Jacqueline in 2010.

John was born on July 1, 1934 in Westmaas, Netherlands to Leendert and Marintje Reedyk. He immigrated to Canada at the age of 17 with his family. They settled in Lethbridge where John raised his family. For 37 years he worked for Horne & Pitfield Foods. He particularly enjoyed interacting with customers and had many valued friends in the community. He then worked for Liquidation World for 10 years until his retirement. The last years have been spent volunteering at the Interfaith Food Bank, Soup Kitchen and Maranatha CRC Church.

John always valued spending time with his large extended family. Around town for the last 30 years, he could be seen with his metal detector, a hobby he spent a lot of time on all year round and thoroughly enjoyed. He always liked a good cup of coffee, a short nap, a good book or a game of cards.

Family and Friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 between 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at MARTIN BROTHERS FUNERAL CHAPELS, 610 - 4th Street South, Lethbridge.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 1:00PM at the MARANATHA CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 260 McGill Blvd. W, Lethbridge, AB, with Reverend Tony Maan, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Interfaith Food Bank, 1116 - 3 Ave North, Lethbridge, AB T1H 0H6 or Immanuel Christian School 802 - 6 Avenue N.
