John Mandel

MR. JOHN MANDEL of Cochrane, formerly of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Rachel Mandel, passed away in Calgary on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at the age of 89 years.

John leaves to cherish his memory, four children; daughter Rachel Johnson of Red Deer, grandson Jason (Teresa) Johnson and great grandson Donavon of Innisfail, son William Mandel of Calgary, daughter Katie Ann (Bill) Johnson of Aden, and granddaughter Corinna (Mark) O'Regan of Kamloops, great grandchildren Damon, Jada, Bella and Roman, grandson Gary Johnson of Aden; daughter Justina (Mike) Scott of Cochrane and granddaughters Cheyenne and Raven. He also leaves to mourn four sisters; Susie and Sarah Mandel of Monarch, Magdalena Berniko of Linden and Katie Mandel of Lethbridge.

John was predeceased by his loving wife Rachel, his parents, his daughter Judy Waldner, granddaughter Cherry Johnson, grandson Darrell Johnson, his son-in-law Andy Johnson, five brothers, one sister, four brothers-in-law, and three sisters-in-law.

John was born February 25, 1922 at Woolford, Alberta. He married his soulmate Rachel on July 20, 1949 and together they raised their family on an acreage in the Longbottom District, Fort Macleod, Alberta. They retired to Lethbridge in 1993. John's love and compassion was evident for his wife as during her final years, he daily visited, cared for and shared Psalm 23 with her in the nursing home. In 2007, John moved to Cochrane.

Besides his great love for his family, John's first love was the Gospel, which he embraced on November 17, 1974. It brought him much peace and contentment. He will always be remembered for his thankfulness to God, God's servants, and for his family and friends.

Family and Friends are invited to pay their respects between 10:00am and 11:00am on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at the MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4 Street South, Lethbridge, with Lloyd G. Haugen, Janet Dorey and Valarie Colli, officiating.

Interment at Archmount Cemetery, Lethbridge, Alberta.
