Jennie ""Jean"" Batycky (nee Kuna) of Coaldale, Alberta passed away peacefully on February 09, 2007 at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital, at 90 years of age.
Jean was born April 19, 1916, on the family homestead (Sec.20-Twp.49-Rge.16-W3) at Menota, Saskatchewan. Her youth was spent on this family farm where Jean developed her ""bond"" to horses. After moving to Alberta, Jean married Panko ""Mike"" Batycky and they owned and operated the Highway Café in Picture Butte, the Grange Hotel in Carmangay and the Rainbow Hotel in Coaldale. During her life in the Lethbridge area, Jean was active in Royal Purple, Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. She was an avid reader, enjoyed watching hockey and a dedicated supporter of post-secondary education.
Jean was predeceased by her husband Mike and their eldest son Dr. Jim Batycky. She will be missed by her son Bill Batycky (Carol); daughter-in-law Lucy; grandchildren Alexandra Noonan (Kristopher), Kathryn Berko (Andreas), Jennifer Batycky (Jason Ringland), Dr. Richard Batycky (Alka) and Dr. Roderick Batycky (Melanie); great-grandchildren Ava, James, Gabriel, Martina, Julia and Anya; sisters Kay March, Julie Taylor and Stella Gates.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff at Good Samaritan West Highlands for their exceptional care of Jean and to Dr. Crawford and the Unit 4A staff at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital for their thoughtfulness and concern.
A Celebration of Jean's life will take place at a family memorial service to be held at the Chapel of Peace in Mountain View Cemetery.
